Brockton: 70 Teachers Laid Off
By Kevin Tocci
The final numbers are in and it appears that 70 Brockton school teachers will be looking for work this fall. In May, the school district sent pink slips to 233 teachers.
That number was reduced a month later after Mayor Bill Carpenter found an addition $1.5 million dollars in the city’s Fiscal 2016 budget. According to School Committee vice chair Tom Minichiello (Min-eh-chello), the reduction in staff will have an effect.
He says classroom size is a key component to positive results in the Brockton Public School system.
Besides teachers, 60 classroom staff that are either paraprofessionals or monitor teacher assistance are also being looking for employment.
