Cohasset: Appointment of New Police Chief, Bill Quigley on Selectmen’s Agenda Tonight

The appointment of a new police chief is on the agenda for tonight’s Cohasset Selectmen’s meeting (Tuesday, August 25).

“[The] town manager is going to name acting chief Bill Quigley for the role,” said Board of Selectman Chairman Steve Gaumer.

Gaumer said the town has not had a permanent police chief since May, 2012 when Quigley took the job on an interim basis.

“The appointment tonight will remove the acting label and recognize the fitness of the interim police chief, Bill Quigley,” said Gaumer.

We asked Gaumer why it took so long.

“There was a fair amount of discord between the then composition of the board of selectmen and the acting town manager with respect to that town manager’s authority to appoint a permanent chief,” said Gaumer.

Now, it’s up to the selectmen to make it official.

“Tonight, our meeting is the official appointment. And then the board will vote on that to accept or reject, and then if becomes official,” said Gaumer.
