Cohasset: Officials hire consultants in new police chief search

A consultant assisting Cohasset in their search for a new police chief appeared before the board of selectmen Monday night to discuss the process.

Cohasset has hired the BadgeQuest consulting company to conduct a nation-wide search for a new police chief.

Along with meeting with the town manager and acting police chief, who’s considered to be in the running for the job, BadgeQuest founder and former Waltham Police Chief Steve Unsworth said he’ll also be conducting a town-wide survey.

“I’ll be meeting with the chief to review policies, procedures, crime stats and things of that nature. I’ll have numerous meetings with Mr. Senior (town administrator) and we’ve already had discussions about his perceptions about the needs of the department.

We’ll be doing a citizen’s survey that I believe is going in the local paper, so that citizens can voice their opinions as to the needs of the department as they relate to the community,” Unsworth explained.

Unsworth expects to attract about 70 candidates for the job, then whittle those down to 12 to 15 and then finally to 4 to 6 finalists.
