Marshfield: Small-business owner claims man with same name causing business downturn

A case of mistaken identity may be leading a small business in Marshfield to lay off some employees. Michael J. Mulligan, owner of Mulligan Appliances on Route 139, says this isn’t the first time Michael D. Mulligan has gotten in trouble.

“I’ve heard about Michael Mulligan since approximately 1986 or ’87 when I started seeing his name on the front page of the newspaper and different things that he’s done wrong in this town,” Michael J. Mulligan said. “He’s caused a lot of conflict with my company, because a lot of people think that that Michael Mulligan has something to do with Mulligan Appliance. He absolutely does not have anything to do with Mulligan Appliance.”

The latest episode came last month when a Marshfield officer pulled over Michael D. Mulligan.

“I noticed he went over the white fog line on the right side of the road a couple times, so based on that, I figured I’d better stop the car, make sure everything’s alright. So I activated the lights, and stopped him right by Forrest Street, right by Ember.”
