Whitman: Two injured in rollover accident
By David Skill
Two people suffered serious injuries in a two car rollover accident late Friday night in Whitman.
Just after 10 p.m,, the Regional Emergency Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting the crash near the south end of Bedford Street.
Whitman Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the scene and found the driver of one vehicle had been ejected, and the second driver was heavily entrapped in the driver’s compartment of his vehicle.
Firefighter/Paramedics used the jaws of life to attempt to free the victim from his vehicle. When Fire Chief Timothy Grenno arrived and saw the situation, and due to the extensive entrapment, he called for Brockton Fire Squad A and Tactical Support Unit, which is a specialized Company for rescue and extrication.
The driver, who was ejected, was taken to South Shore Hospital. The other driver, once he was freed from his vehicle, was taken by MedFlight helicopter to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston with what was described as multi-system trauma.
The names, ages and hometowns of the victims have not yet been released.
